Steel - the traditional boat building material

Steel has always been a traditional material in shipbuilding. Even today, high-quality and individual yachts are still made from this material.

In the past, there have been increasing cases of corrosion of the steel deck under the teak. The causes are easy to name: Conventional decks and leaky seams trap moisture, which can get to the steel and leads to rust and corrosion problems.

Challenges with marine decking on steel

Often plywood sheets are glued and screwed to the steel deck to level the deck after welding and to make it easier to fit the teak battens later. It is a matter of time before such decks trap water in the plywood, the wood decomposes and corrosion of the steel deck begins.

It's all about the right protection

These damage patterns are avoidable. Our modern teak decks protect the steel better than a coat of paint or anti-slip coating could. The protective values of our teak decks far exceed those of modern anti-corrosion coatings - also in terms of moisture barrier and oxidation protection.
