TEAK DECKING

Today, it is impossible to imagine boat and yacht construction without aluminium. From individual and high-priced single constructions to large mega yachts, we find every type of boat in this material. A steel yacht requires elaborate corrosion protection, whereas the aluminum alloy has natural corrosion resistance. The current trend in boat building is in favor of the light metal.
Often elegant teak decks decorate these high-priced and individual aluminium yachts. If the special features of this light metal are taken into account during the construction of the wooden decking, the owners of these boats will have a worry-free deck for decades.
In the presence of oxygen, i.e. already in the air, aluminium is coated with an oxide layer. This layer reliably protects the material from further corrosion. However, despite this, we have observed corrosion under older, mostly screwed teak decks on aluminium yachts - caused by water penetration, which collects between the teak and aluminium decks and dissolves salt, dirt and some ingredients in the teak. This chemical environment makes it difficult for the aluminium to renew its protective oxide layer and makes the expensive hull vulnerable.
It is essential to take structural measures to prevent moisture from collecting between the wood and the aluminium and affecting the chemical processes responsible for the formation of the aluminium's natural protective layer. This can only be ensured by a wmoisture barrier in the deck - a construction feature that all our teak decks for aluminium yachts have.
Opt for a modern teak deck for optimum protection of your aluminium yacht.
Teak decking revolution:
Conventional construction: Moisture (blue) can penetrate through damaged deck seams into the aluminium deck. Pitting and aluminium oxidation (beige) can be the consequences.
Our costruction method with a moisture barrier: Moisture penetrating through a damaged deck seam is stopped by the epoxy resin moisture barrier (green). The aluminium yacht remains permanently protected.
